Introduction

"The 16th Avenue Color Stairway Project", which was planned since 2003 and took two and a half years to complete, was officially launched in August 2005. This staircase, consisting of 163 steps, was completed by local residents under the leadership of artists Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher. The ordinary staircase was transformed into a rich art piece full of colors, bringing more vitality to San Francisco. The pattern of the staircase is composed of sun, stars, moon, and Milky Way lines.
