Introduction
The Transamerica Pyramid is the tallest skyscraper in San Francisco, USA, and is one of the representations of postmodern architecture. It is located in the historic Montgomery District, standing 260 meters tall with 48 floors, primarily used for commercial and office purposes. Construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1972, becoming one of the top 100 tallest buildings in the world. The Transamerica Corporation once moved its headquarters to this building, which is no longer the headquarters but still has a close connection with the company and bears its mark. In 1999, the Dutch AEGON insurance group acquired it as an investment. William Pereira's innovative design faced much opposition and criticism, but with the building's completion, it became one of the most important elements of the San Francisco skyline. The building has a four-sided pyramid shape, with the elevator shaft on the east side and the stairwell on the west side, topped by a spire that is 64.6 meters high. The tip of the spire features a virtual observation deck equipped with four monitors and cameras, allowing visitors to easily control direction and distance. The observation deck on the 27th floor was closed after the September 11 attacks and has been replaced by the virtual observation deck. The top of the building is covered with aluminum panels, which light up a beam of white light during holidays, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day, adding a unique atmosphere to the city.
