Its influence extends beyond the state of California, with its Berkeley, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles campuses all being world-renowned institutions. The university's motto is "Let There Be Light," and it offers top-ranked academic programs across over 150 fields, making it one of the broadest research institutions in higher education worldwide. UC has produced 45 Nobel laureates, and boasts more members of the National Academy of Sciences and more patents than any other university in the United States. Its campuses are also home to cultural landmarks such as open-air Greek theaters, Italian Renaissance-style clock towers, and the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, which exhibits works ranging from colonial times to the present day with social and aesthetic significance.
