Introduction
An aircraft carrier is a symbol of military power and an unmissable museum for military enthusiasts. This museum is located on a CV-11 (later renamed CVS-11) aircraft carrier. The carrier began service in 1943 and experienced multiple battles in World War II and the Vietnam War as a member of the Atlantic Fleet. In 1962 and 1965, it successfully completed two missions to rescue astronauts returning from space capsules.
It was decommissioned in 1974 and converted into a museum in 1982, open to the public. After three years of renovation, it was reopened in 2009. Standing beside Pier 86, it is a landmark building in Manhattan waiting for visitors to visit. With the helm at the command tower facing Manhattan's high-rise buildings, you can see the beautiful Manhattan skyline. The museum also partners with the Space Shuttle Pavilion to display the first space shuttle and a roaring nuclear submarine. It is worth mentioning that during the "9/11" attack, it was transformed into a temporary command center by the FBI.
This museum aircraft carrier is a repository of fascinating stories, telling a rich history and magnificent experiences while providing a real showcase of naval fighters. Address Pier 86, W 46th St, New York, NY 10036
