Introduction

The World Financial Center, located in Lower Manhattan in New York City, is a highly regarded set of buildings adjacent to the World Trade Center site and facing the Hudson River. Major financial institutions such as Merrill Lynch and American Express are its primary tenants. Designed by American architects Cesar Pelli and Adamson Associates, the project was built by Olympia and York real estate development company from 1985 to 1988. During construction, it used mud excavated during the construction of the World Trade Center in the 1960s, filling in the entire Battery Park City, and then building the World Financial Center on the original site. The September 11 attacks caused some damage to the building complex, but most of it has since been rebuilt.
