Introduction

Buttermere Lake is located in the Lake District of northwest England, formerly part of the historic county of Cumberland and now owned by the National Trust. The lake is 1.25 miles long, 0.25 miles wide, and reaches a depth of 75 feet. The village of Buttermere is located on the northwest shore of the lake and is named after it.
