Introduction

This residence used to be the home of Shakespeare's parents, John and Mary Shakespeare. In 1847, to commemorate Shakespeare's birthday, the Shakespeare Birthday Committee raised funds to purchase the residence and restored it to its 16th-century appearance. The residence features a charming half-timbered architecture and was where Shakespeare was born and spent his childhood. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in England, welcoming 3.5 million visitors each year.
