Introduction

Coventry Cathedral, also known as St. Michael's Cathedral, is situated in the center of Coventry. On November 14, 1940, during a Nazi raid, the magnificent Coventry Cathedral was reduced to rubble. However, in 1962, a new cathedral was built adjacent to the old site, and Britten's War Requiem, featuring lyrics from the works of World War I poet Wilfred Owen, was premiered at its opening ceremony. Inside the cathedral, Gothic spires and stained glass showcase exquisite craftsmanship, while the Christ Tapestry is a masterpiece created by Graham Sutherland. The sculptor of the statue at the entrance, depicting St. Michael's battle against demons, is Jacob Epstein, and the scene is depicted with great vividness and power.
