Introduction

The Glasgow Museum of Modern Art houses a large collection of modern paintings and sculptures, making it a great place to visit, but what really catches the eye is the statue of Duke of Wellington at the entrance. Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, led the Allied forces to defeat Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, becoming a hero who changed history. The 20-foot-high statue of the Duke can be seen in many cities, but the one at the Glasgow Art Gallery entrance is the most famous. In recent years, there have been some anonymous pranksters who sneak into the museum at night and place traffic cones on the Duke's head. Although the city workers always use high-pressure water guns to remove the cones, the brief "hat" wearing still causes a sensation. However, now the people of Glasgow have accepted this humorous atmosphere and consider it a representation of the city's relaxed and humorous attitude. Finally, the city government compromised and allowed this prank to continue. During the London Olympics, to celebrate Scotland's excellent achievements, the Duke of Wellington even wore a gold-plated "hat" - the British sense of humor will never diminish.
