Introduction
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is located on the northeast side of Chamberlain Square, and is one of the largest and most popular cultural venues in Birmingham. The iconic clock tower is often referred to by locals as "BigBrum", and is on par with the Big Ben clock tower at the Houses of Parliament in London. The museum was opened in 1885 by the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. The collection at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery mainly consists of precious Victorian-era artworks, with the pre-Raphaelite period oil paintings being the most prominent, as well as art pieces from ancient Greece and Rome. In addition, the museum also holds up to 40 exhibitions on local history and natural history, archaeology, and world culture, providing visitors with extensive opportunities to learn and appreciate culture. Opening hours Monday to Thursday 10:00-17:00, Friday 10:30-17:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00-17:00, closed from December 24th to 26th.
Transportation About 6 minutes' walk from the New Street Railway Station, or take bus routes 10, 23, 24, 27, 29, 82, 83, 87, 89, 120, 127 or 128 and get off at the Edmund Street stop.
