Introduction
Balliol College is one of the most famous and oldest colleges of Oxford University, renowned for its intense political atmosphere and for nurturing several British prime ministers and other important political figures. At the same time, Balliol College is also one of the colleges that admits the highest number of foreign students in Oxford. It was not until the mid-nineteenth century, when Benjamin Jowett became its Master, that the college gradually flourished into one of the most important colleges in Oxford. Former British Prime Minister Asquith described Balliol students as "displaying a natural and extraordinary character, with a calm sense of superiority."
