Introduction
Sighing Bridge, also known as Hertford Bridge, is a pedestrian bridge in Oxford, UK, spanning over New College Lane and connecting the north and south parts of Hertford College. The bridge was designed by Sir Thomas Graham Jackson and completed in 1914, and its exceptional design has made it an iconic landmark of Oxford. The name of the bridge comes from a similar covered bridge in Venice, Italy, which has also inspired the names of many similar bridges in cities around the world. However, some argue that Sighing Bridge actually resembles another famous bridge in Venice – the Rialto Bridge.
