Introduction

Located within the City of Westminster in London, Buckingham Palace serves as the official residence and workplace of the Queen of England, as well as the administrative headquarters of the British monarchy. It is one of the few remaining royal palaces in use today and was built in 1703 under the name Buckingham House, named after the Duke of Buckingham. The palace features beautiful and grand state rooms and ballrooms that display various collections. However, tourists are only able to visit 19 state rooms during the Queen's annual summer holiday in Scotland. Every day at 11am, Buckingham Palace puts on a grand ceremony: the Changing of the Guard, where many tourists arrive early to get the best viewing spot. When the Queen is present in the palace, the Royal Standard flag is raised outside.
