Introduction

The Turin Cathedral, built in the 15th century, is famous for storing the Shroud of Jesus. However, the shroud is kept inside the cathedral all year round and can only be exhibited with the approval of the Pope, making it difficult for many people to see. The Cappella della Santa Sindone has been the official location for storing the shroud used after the crucifixion since 1694. However, due to severe damage caused by a fire, the cathedral was permanently closed in 1997. Now, a copy of the shroud is permanently exhibited on the altar in front of the cathedral.
