Due Torri, Medieval Towers with a Breathtaking View
Piazza di Porta Ravegnana, 40126 Bologna
4.1
Introduction
The Twin Towers are named after two building clusters, with the taller one called "Torre degli Asinelli" and the lower and leaning one called "Torre Garisenda", resembling a drunkard. Both towers were built in the 11th century and are incredibly durable. In medieval Bologna, major families were keen on building high towers to showcase their family power, with the Asinelli and Garisenda families being the most famous. However, the Garisenda family could not hold on and their tower collapsed due to unstable foundations during construction. In contrast, the Asinelli tower still stands today and has become Italy's third tallest tower-shaped structure. Address Piazza di Porta Ravegnana, 40126 Bologna
