Introduction
The Temple of Portunus is an ancient building located in Rome, dedicated to the god Portunus. Built in 75 BC, it is a rectangular building with a portico and engaged columns, constructed on a raised platform and using the Ionic order. It is situated at a sharp bend of the Tiber River, overlooking ships entering the port from Ostia. In 872 it was converted into a church and renamed the Santa Maria in Egypt. Since the 16th century, paintings and sculptures have been added to the Ionic columns, losing its original ancient Roman appearance. It is located in the ancient Forum Boarium, with the circular Temple of Hercules Victor to the southeast of the square. Address Piazza Bocca della Verità, Rome, Italy
