Introduction

The Lateran Basilica of St. John is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the world, and serves as the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome and the official seat (cathedra) of the Pope. It is one of the four major basilicas of Rome and holds the distinction of being the mother church of the global Catholic Church. November 9th is celebrated as the feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran in the Catholic Church.
