Introduction
The Four Rivers Fountain, located in the center of Piazza Navona, is a representative work of Baroque art. Built in 1651, it was dedicated to honor Bishop Innocent X Pamphili. The fountain was designed by Bernini and features four statues representing the four great rivers of the four continents: the Nile in Africa, the Ganges in Asia, the Danube in Europe, and the Rio de la Plata in South America. Each statue is characterized by unique postures, especially the Rio de la Plata, whose statue is bald and twisted. The Four Rivers Fountain is one of the must-see attractions when traveling to Rome, and is particularly lively at night, making it a center of Rome's nightlife.
