Introduction

St. Mark's Church, built in 336 AD, was constructed by Pope Mark to commemorate Saint Mark, the author of the Gospel according to Mark. Under the altar lies the remains of Pope Mark. After numerous renovations, the church has preserved many precious artifacts and artworks, including the 9th-century circular mosaic and the emblematic lion sculpture of Pope Paul II from the 15th century. Additionally, the Baroque art of the late 18th century has left a lasting impression on the decoration of the church's treasured cloisters. Like Rome itself, St. Mark's Church is steeped in history and culture and is an unmissable destination for art enthusiasts.
