Introduction

Mijas is a charming white town located on the foothills, with many red-roofed white-walled houses. It only takes an hour's walk to visit the whole town. The most important attraction is the Hermitage of the Virgin of Peña (ErmitadeVirgendelaPena), a cave carved into the rocks by monks in the 16th century, which houses the patron saint of the town, the Virgin of Peña. The lookout near the chapel is the best place to admire the town's beautiful scenery. The Mijas bullring has exciting performances throughout the year, and should not be missed when visiting in the winter.
