Introduction

Xativa is not a street name in the city center, but a small town located in the Valencian Community, also known as the Xativa town. Although the town covers only 77 square kilometers and has a population of less than 30,000, it retains many important churches and monasteries, built in the 13th-15th centuries. The town preserves important historical landmarks such as intact city walls and castles from the Roman and Moorish periods, Royal Monastery, Santa Ana Convent, and Saint Peter's Church. The most famous of these is the prehistoric 30,000-year-old cave dwelling site "Cova Negra". Although climbing the city walls may be a bit laborious, the scenery along the way is spectacular, and standing at the top overlooking the entire town is awe-inspiring. Xativa's road signs are marked in the local Valencian language, and the town has a deep culture with friendly locals who are eager to help tourists.
