Introduction

The Alcázar Castle is located at the western end of Segovia, Spain, surrounded by the Eresma and Clamores rivers. It was built during the Christian era and was considered a strategic point in the Castilian defensive system. The castle, built on a cliff, was designed to defend against enemy attacks and has a moat over 10 meters deep as an entrance. The castle was reinforced during the Roman era and was established as a Royal Artillery Academy by Charles II in 1786. The building was destroyed by fire in 1862 and later rebuilt. The current castle building combines the styles of palace architecture and military defense and is a classical architecture model. The interior decoration of the castle is full of traces of Moorish culture, with elaborate decorations commonly found in Moorish culture painted in vivid colors on plaster in many of the rooms. Highlights of the castle include the Sala de las Pinas, the ceiling of which is decorated with 392 pineapple-shaped stalactites, and the three-dimensional carvings in the Sala de Reyes, depicting the bloody struggles of 52 kings during the Reconquest of Spain. The castle served as the inspiration for the castles in the Disney films Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.

Winter: November-March of the following year, 10:00-18:00

October: The summer opening hours are in effect on Fridays and Saturdays, and winter opening hours are in effect at all other times.
The museum is closed on June 26th, December 25th, and January 1st every year.
