Introduction

The Bizza Gola Gate, built in the mid-16th century, is the main entrance to the city of Toledo, facing north. As the only gateway to the ancient city due to its surrounding by the Tajo River, the gate is decorated with the imperial eagle emblem of King Carlos I of Spain. The city walls also feature a quotation from Cervantes, stating "the glory of Spain, the light of Spanish cities," highlighting the importance of Toledo.
