Introduction

The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville, located in Seville, Spain, was founded in 1839 and houses a collection of Spanish visual art pieces from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, including masterpieces from the so-called Seville painting Golden Age of the 17th century. The museum is located in the former Merced Calzada de la Asunción monastery, which was originally built during the reign of Ferdinand III and extensively renovated by architect Juan de Oviedo in the early 17th century. With the confiscation of art from the monastery by the Spanish government, the museum gradually incorporated art treasures from all over the country, becoming the fascinating museum it is today.
