Introduction

The Valens Aqueduct Bridge is a Roman aqueduct with a long history, which provided the primary water source for the capital of the Byzantine Empire, Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey). The construction of this project began in the late 4th century AD by Byzantine Emperor Valens. Subsequently, several Ottoman sultans repaired it and it remains one of the most famous landmarks in the city today. The aqueduct is located in the Fatih district of Istanbul and spans the valley between Istanbul University and the Fatih Mosque. The preserved section is about 921 meters long, approximately 50 meters shorter than the original length.
