Introduction

On April 28, 2012, a Pureness Museum opened to the public in Istanbul, Turkey. This museum was inspired by a private novel written by author Pamuk. While writing the novel, Pamuk constructed the museum in his mind. The top floor of the museum is decorated to match the living conditions of the main character in the novel, and displays Pamuk's handwritten manuscript and design sketches for the museum. Many antique objects and photos in the museum evoke memories of old Istanbul. Although the museum was born out of a private novel, it showcases the past and culture of a city, making it widely influential among visitors.
