Introduction

Taksim Square is the largest square and an important transportation hub in the center of Istanbul. Turkish football fans come here to watch games, celebrate victories, and lay flowers at the statue of the founding father, Kemal, on major holidays. Surrounding the square are travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, pubs, and fast food chains, including Istanbul's luxury hotels. The Atatürk Cultural Center, a multipurpose cultural center and opera house, is also located on Taksim Square. In addition, the square is an important transportation hub for Istanbul's public transportation, including buses, subways, and cable car lines.
