Introduction

Hluboká Castle, also known as the Cave Castle, is the only castle in the world located inside a cave. The castle has a long history, dating back to the mid-12th century, with the central portion built during the Renaissance period. It wasn't until around 1570 that it was fully completed, with different architectural styles gradually emerging during the four hundred-year construction period. The castle is well equipped with many secret passages, reportedly connecting to the Postojna Cave. The original owner, Přemysl, rebelled against the Habsburg family in the 12th century but was eventually defeated after over a year of siege due to betrayal from a servant.
