Oresund Bridge, Breathtaking Bridge-Tunnel Engineering Marvel
Oresund Bridge, Sweden
4.1
Introduction
The Oresund Bridge spans Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmo, Sweden, with a total length of 16 kilometers, making it the largest completed cable-stayed bridge in the world. The bridge's design and consulting work was jointly undertaken by Denmark and Sweden's COWI and VBB. The bridge consists of three parts, including an 8-kilometer bridge, a 4-kilometer road on an artificial island, and a 4-kilometer underwater tunnel. The completion of the bridge will make the eastern part of Denmark and southern part of Sweden the most densely populated, economically active, and culturally exchanged areas in the Nordic and Baltic regions' international metropolitan communities. The bridge was completed in May 2000 and is an impressive engineering feat. Transportation Trains connecting Denmark and Sweden can both arrive.
