Det Hanseatiske Museum og Schoetstuene, Step into the Past of Seafaring Life

Finnegårdsgaten 1a, 5003 Bergen

Introduction

The Hanseatic Museum, built in 1872 and open to the public, is one of the representative buildings in the Bergen Bay area. The interior of the house includes storage rooms, restaurants, offices, and bedrooms, presenting a typical style of seaside architecture at the time. From 1350 to 1750, the buildings on the pier were important places for German fishing trade. Walking through this old pier building can provide insight into the lives of fishermen at the time. Due to the prohibition of open flames to prevent fires, the interior of these buildings is relatively dim. The Hanseatic Museum is the only well-preserved old pier building where tourists can admire local handicrafts and visit some of the rooms.
