Introduction

The Fortress of Finland is a famous tourist attraction located on six small islands in the Finnish capital of Helsinki. Originally named Sveaborg, this defense fortification was built by the Swedes in 1748 to defend against Russian expansion, led by the renowned Swedish engineer Augustin Ehrensvärd. Over time, Finnish patriotism led to its renaming as the Fortress of Finland, although some Swedes and Finnish speakers still refer to it as Sveaborg. Regardless, this defense fortification still attracts many visitors to admire its grand architecture and deep historical significance.
