Introduction
The François Rude Square was created in 1904 after the demolition of a group of old buildings. The square's design was entirely conceived by a renowned sculptor from Dijon, who was also the creator of the relief "La Marseillaise" on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The locals refer to this square as "Bareuzai" Square, named after the grape stomper statue in the central fountain. Grape stomping is an essential part of the winemaking process, and the stomper's feet are stained red, hence "Bas rose." This detail also highlights the importance of the wine industry in the Burgundy region. Address Place François Rude, 21000 Dijon, France
