Introduction

University of Paris, formerly known as the Sorbonne University, was founded in the early 12th century. In 1180, it was granted the title of "university" by King Louis VII, making it one of the earliest three universities in Europe, along with the University of Bologna and the University of Salerno, known as the mother universities of Europe. These three universities serve as models for the establishment of major universities in Europe. The current form of the University of Paris was established in 1696, but its history can be traced back to the Sorbonne University founded in 1257. During the French Revolution in 1793, the University of Paris merged with many colleges in Paris and became a comprehensive university. After the student movement in 1968, the University of Paris was divided into 13 easier-to-manage universities in 1969. Today, the University of Paris is a prestigious comprehensive university with international reputation.
