Introduction

The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, also known as the Little Triumphal Arch, was built to commemorate the victories of Napoleon Bonaparte in a series of wars in 1805. It is located opposite the Louvre Museum. The arch is made up of red and white marble columns with three arched gates in the middle. The four golden horses on top of the arch are true gilded bronze horses that originally came from the St. Mark's Basilica in Italy. Although the original horses were returned to Italy in 1815, what can be seen now is an accurate replica. Standing next to these horses is the gilded goddess of peace and victory, which is a visually striking focal point.
