Introduction

Pont Neuf is an ancient bridge that spans the River Seine in Paris, connecting the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The bridge was originally constructed by King Henry III of France in the 16th century, but underwent several modifications and delays during its construction. It was finally unveiled by Henry IV in 1607. Today, the bridge features a statue of Henry IV and has become a famous landmark in the city of Paris. Although the original design included houses built on the bridge, Henry IV decided against it to preserve the view of the Louvre. Today, visitors can enjoy a leisurely picnic on the Île de la Cité by walking west from the statue of Henry IV. The bridge's historical and cultural significance has been praised by many writers and poets, including in the novel "The Lovers on the Bridge."
