Introduction
Sergiyev Posad Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is one of the oldest and largest monasteries in Russia. It was founded in 1337 and consists of Trinity Cathedral, Dukhovskaya Church, Assumption Church, Little Refectory, Public Hall, Smolensky, the Tsar's Palace, and an 88-meter bell tower. The monastery represents Northeast Russian classical architecture and its stone walls, reaching a height of 15 meters, served as an important defense stronghold in the north of Moscow. It has various churches and ancillary buildings that have been renovated and expanded over several centuries. It houses art works and folk crafts including woodwork, stone carvings, bone carvings, murals, paper paintings, and embroidery from the 19th century to the present. The monastery also houses the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary, where young monks and nuns in black robes can often be seen. Additionally, the monastery has a historical-art museum that has witnessed history since the mid-14th century, even being involved in Russia's historical events. The most famous buildings in the monastery include the Trinity Cathedral built between 1423 and 1442, Dukhovskaya Church completed in 1477, and the five-story bell tower built between 1741 and 1769.
