Introduction
In the open space of the Winter Palace Square, stands a magnificent Alexander Column, made of red granite, commemorating Alexander I's victory in the War of 1812 against Napoleon. The 47.5-meter high column, with a diameter of 4 meters, weighs 600 tons. Surprisingly, it has no foundation and relies solely on its own weight for stability. At the top of the column, a bronze angel holds a cross and tramples on a snake, symbolizing the triumph over the enemy. The column is adorned with exquisite sculptures, depicting symbols of honor, glory, and victory. Address Palace Square, St Petersburg, Leningrad Oblast, Russia, 198324
