Introduction
The New Maiden Convent is located in the southwestern part of Moscow, and is one of the series of monastery buildings incorporated into the defense system of Moscow. The convent was built in the 16th to 17th centuries by Tsar Vasily III to commemorate the liberation of the ancient Russian city of Smolensk from Lithuanian rule.
