Introduction

In 1775, Russian Empress Catherine II accidentally came to the picturesque barren land of Chernaya Gryaz and decided to purchase the village, renaming it "Empress Village." She ordered architect Bazhenov to build a series of palace buildings, including the Grand Palace, Bread House, and Opera House. All buildings were constructed with red brick and adorned with white stone carvings, showcasing a Russian Gothic style. However, ten years later, the Empress became enraged for certain reasons and ordered the halt of construction by Bazhenov, appointing his student, Kazakov, for a redesign. But the plan was never completed, and the estate gradually declined. In the 19th century and during the Soviet era, the estate underwent several restorations and gradually became a place for Moscow citizens to stroll and have picnic. Recently, after restoration, the palaces are open to the public. The estate features various beautiful landscapes, including springs, ponds, river valleys, palace complexes, and forests. However, there are not many rooms inside the palaces, with more rooms being arranged for temporary archaeological and art exhibitions.
