Cochem Castle, A Reborn Gothic Marvel Overlooking Mosel

Cochem Castle Schlossstraße 36 56812 Cochem

Introduction

The castle in the small town of Cochem, located in the Mosel Valley, was not originally completed in the 12th century. It was destroyed by the army led by the French king in 1689 after a rich and colorful history. The ruins of the castle were preserved for 180 years until a wealthy merchant from Berlin, Louis Ravené, bought the ruins in 1868 and rebuilt the castle. Instead of the previous Romanesque architecture, he chose a new Gothic architectural style.
