Introduction
Marx's former residence is located at 10 Brueckenstrasse, Trier, Germany. It is a historic Baroque-style house. This light yellow, 3-story building was built in 1727 and features elegant architecture with brown windows and door lintels, showcasing the unique charm of the Rhine region in Germany. Marx's father, Heinrich Marx, a lawyer, rented this house in 1818, and Marx was born here on May 5 of the same year. The upper floor of the house was the residence of Marx's family, while the lower floor was a law office. The Marx family lived in this house for a year and a half. In 1904, the house was rediscovered and purchased by the German Social Democratic Party. Under the expansion and renovation by architect Gustav Cassel, the house became more spacious and bright, incorporating elements of French design. However, the house was occupied and confiscated during the Nazi era. It wasn't until 1945 that the house returned to the hands of the Social Democratic Party. In 1968, the Social Democratic Party entrusted the management of the house to the Friedrich Albert Foundation, ensuring the proper preservation and protection of the place where Marx lived and worked. Today, Marx's former residence remains simple and elegant, silently witnessing the inheritance and development of Marx's great ideas. Address KARL MARX HAUS MUSEUM, Brückenstraße 10, D 54290 Trier
