Introduction

Mariental Castle Fortress, located on the west bank of the Main River, is an iconic building in Würzburg. It was built by the prince-bishops in 1201 and has been inhabited until the completion of Würzburg Residence, enduring multiple wars. The medieval-style castle was transformed into Baroque style in the 17th century, but still retains its dignified and simple characteristics. Today, the interior of the castle has become two museums, presenting the history of the region and the bishop's family. From the old bridge to the mountain road, it takes about 30 minutes to reach Mariental Castle. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can overlook the panorama with its impressive red-tiled roofs. Moreover, the extensive vineyards at the foot of the mountain are also a local highlight. The path between the castle and the mountains is also part of the famous "Vineyard Hiking Trail" on Mariental Mountain.
