Introduction
In the olden days, it was a place for grain trading, but today it has become a quiet and small square at the eastern end of the main street, adjacent to the castle. Just look up to enjoy the beautiful view of the castle. In the center of the square stands a statue of the Virgin Mary, erected by the Jesuits in the 18th century with the intention of attracting more Catholics. However, Heidelberg is still predominantly Protestant today. The square is the starting point for the journey to the castle.
