Introduction
Explore Egeskov Castle, one of the best-preserved Renaissance water castles in Europe. The castle, built in 1554 in the southern part of Funen Island, Denmark, was originally constructed as a defensive residence during the internal conflicts caused by the Reformation. It is situated on a small lake and built on oak piles, with a depth of 5 meters. The castle, named "Egeskov" in Danish, meaning "oak forest," required cutting down an entire forest of oak trees to create its foundation.
Inside the castle, you can find a variety of exhibitions and activities, including a hunting hall and a museum displaying rare crafts and equipment. The antique car museum is particularly impressive, showcasing numerous vintage cars, motorcycles, bicycles, ambulances, horse carriages, and even old airplanes. The music hall hosts regular events such as midsummer parties, concerts, and special exhibitions. Children will enjoy the popular Toy House, known as Tånia's House.
Egeskov Castle also features a great cafe that serves delicious sandwiches and Italian specialties. Visitors can enjoy a picnic on the hanging bridge between the beech trees, 10-15 meters high. For a fun challenge, try the electric balance bikes on the Segway track and earn the title of "Egeskov's Segway Knight." Additionally, the castle boasts a massive maze for families to enjoy and a children's playground area with activities like stilt walking, soapbox racing, and tug-of-war competitions.
