Introduction

Amalienborg Palace, built in the mid-18th century, is located in the eastern part of Copenhagen. It is the main palace of the Danish royal family, not far from the statue of The Little Mermaid. The palace is surrounded by an octagonal square and consists of four identical palaces. These palaces changed hands several times before becoming the royal residence in the late 18th century. Today, when the Queen is in the palace, the national flag will be raised on the building she resides in. Visitors can explore two of the palaces, one of which is now a museum of the royal family and the other is where the Queen receives foreign guests. Additionally, visitors can take photos with the royal guards, but please remember to keep a distance. You can witness a small-scale changing of the guard ceremony when the guards switch positions. If you're brave enough, you can try marching towards them at a distance of one meter, but be aware that some tourists may take photos of you.
