Introduction

The lake of love, located next to the Beguinage convent, is a beautiful sight in the heart of the city. It is known as the "Swan Lake" due to the presence of swans swimming in it. The name of this place derives from a poignant love story. Long ago, this area was a desolate place, surrounded by forests and swamps. An old sailor and his daughter, Nana, lived here. Nana fell in love with a young man, but her father was against it. The young man later joined the army and fought in a war against the Romans. Seizing the opportunity, the old sailor married off his daughter to someone else. Nana, however, escaped her marriage and came to the Lake of Love, where the young man eventually found her, only to discover that she was dying. He buried her, causing ripples on the lake surface, and thus, the Lake of Love was born. It takes some physical effort to walk around the lake, so you can rent a bike to leisurely explore and admire this breathtaking scenery.
