Introduction

The Monument of Light, also known as the Dublin Spire, is a 121.2-meter stainless steel needle-shaped monument. It is located on the site where the Nelson's Pillar in O'Connell Street was destroyed. Designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, the Dublin Spire aims to create an elegant bridge between technology and art. The design has won multiple international awards. The installation of the first section was completed on December 18, 2002, and the remaining five 20-meter sections were completed on January 21, 2003. The base of the spire has a diameter of 3 meters, while the top has a diameter of only 15 centimeters. Originally, it was planned to have the world's tallest sculpture at the top, but this idea was abandoned due to difficulties in obtaining approval and environmental regulations. Every dusk, the base and the top 12 meters of the spire are illuminated, creating a spectacular and dazzling sight reminiscent of a towering lighthouse guiding the way for the city of Dublin in the night sky.
