Introduction
Shengxing Train Station in Taiwan is a pilgrimage site for many railway enthusiasts. This small and adorable station has a history of over 90 years, built in 1903 during the 29th year of the Qing Dynasty's Guangxu reign. There is also a monument on the platform with an elevation of 402.326 meters, marking the highest point on the Taiwan Railway's North-South line. The entire station building is made of wood, without the use of any iron nails. It is a Japanese-style hipped-roof wooden structure, which is said to ward off evil spirits and bring blessings. Despite the suspension of the old mountain line, Shengxing remains a popular tourist attraction. Especially on holidays, Shengxing Old Street is always bustling with people. Although the various old streets are similar, the charm of Shengxing lies mainly in the old mountain line. As a traditional Hakka town, the entire old street is full of interesting Hakka cultural elements. If it's your first time in Taiwan, you don't necessarily have to visit Shengxing, but if you have the opportunity, it's definitely worth coming here when the old mountain line is operational again.
In front of Shengxing Train Station, you can rent bicycles or motorcycles and travel along a road parallel to the old mountain line called "Miao 49 Road", where you can see many historical sites, such as the Longteng Bridge damaged by an earthquake in 1935. This beautiful arched brick bridge looks even more beautiful because of its incomplete state, which is why many people like to take wedding photos here.
