Introduction
Lanyang Plain has rich natural and cultural resources, encompassing various ecosystems and diverse ethnic cultures, characterized by warm and enthusiastic people and vibrant culture, forming the feature of "Yilan as a museum." Lanyang Museum has always upheld this concept, serving as Yilan's "window," fully integrating local resources through functions such as collection research, exhibition, and education, promoting the museum movement throughout the county, thereby allowing Yilan, this museum, to continuously innovate in sustainable development.
The architectural design of Lanyang Museum also fully integrates local natural elements. Architect Yao Renxi drew inspiration from the common single-sided mountain form found in the Northeast Coast area to create a massive stone block that merges the building with nature. This structure looks like a giant black stone and has a unique and peculiar shape, deeply evoking visitors' curiosity and desire for exploration.
Upon entering Lanyang Plain, people can deeply experience the emotional integration of mountains and sea here. Therefore, Lanyang Museum provides an experience similar to Yilan's unique geographical space in its exhibitions, using metaphors of mountains, plains, and seas to convey and understand the interactive experience with the environment. The permanent exhibition theme, combined with the architectural design features, is divided into four levels—Prologue Exhibition, Mountain Layer, Plain Layer, Sea Layer, and Time Corridor, showcasing Yilan's geographical environment and cultural trajectory, while also expanding visitors' imaginative space. In addition to permanent exhibitions, Lanyang Museum also launches special exhibitions with different themes, allowing visitors to understand the highlights of Yilan from more diversified perspectives.
