Introduction

Zhongzheng Park is located on the hills of the east coast of Keelung City, Taiwan. It is one of the most important public open spaces and iconic attractions in Keelung. The park offers spacious grounds and various facilities, surrounded by serene environment and beautiful scenery, making it popular among locals and tourists. Within the park, you can find recreational facilities such as children's playground, ice skating rink, tennis court, basketball court, and Chiang Kai-shek Pavilion. There are also many governmental institutions, schools, and historical sites. For example, upon entering the park, you will see the Keelung Shrine and the nearby Zhen Mountain Battery, a historical site in Taiwan. The second level of the park is the main venue for the Keelung Mid-Year Festival, featuring the main altar and a folk customs museum. During the 15th day of the lunar month, the park becomes bustling with crowds and festivities. The third level of the park is the Guanhai Pavilion, the highest point of the park, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Keelung City, as well as visit the Big Buddha Zen Temple and the Keelung Municipal Chung Cheng Junior High School. The Big Buddha Zen Temple, located atop Shoushan in Zhongzheng Park, was constructed in the architectural style of Tang Dynasty Buddhist temples, with four floors. Inside the temple, there are various buildings such as the Grand Main Hall, the Round Passage Hall, the Buddhist Lecture Hall, the Maitreya Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Lurie Hall, the Gongde Hall, and the Zen Room. The most prominent feature in front of the temple is a 22.5-meter-tall white statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, one of the most representative landmarks in Keelung and the tallest Buddhist statue in Taiwan at that time. The Zen temple not only offers visitors the opportunity to admire and explore, but also provides a place for worship.
